No accounts, no sign-up, no cookies set by this site, no ad networks, and no third-party analytics. What we measure, we measure ourselves, on this site’s own server, in aggregate — and we never store your IP address.
Charting 4 NatGas counts how the site is used so we can make it better: which pages and panels are opened, roughly how long a visit lasts, and which features are actually used. This happens first-party — the measurement goes to this site’s own domain, not to an analytics company.
To tell visitors apart without identifying anyone, the server builds a one-way fingerprint from your IP address and browser details using a secret key that is thrown away and regenerated every night. The IP address itself is never written down, and because the key changes nightly, the fingerprint cannot link your visits across days. A second fingerprint, with a key rotated on a roughly 90-day cycle, exists only to count how many readers come back; it has the same properties — one-way, no IP stored, no identity attached. Raw usage logs are kept for about 45 days, after which only aggregate totals remain.
Your browser also keeps a short-lived session marker in sessionStorage so that one visit isn’t counted as several; it expires shortly after you leave.
It does not set cookies. It does not run advertising or ad trackers. It does not use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service. It does not sell, share or trade any data. It does not profile you, and it cannot — nothing it keeps identifies a person.
